Happy Birthday Mikey

Our baby turns 26 today. So kind, sweet, smart, talented and funny. He plays bass guitar and is amazing on stage. Really talented, and so cool. He helps people all day at the local library, with patience that amazes me. He's a great guy, with a big heart. I love to hear him laugh, and watch him turn to mush when our little bird says hi. He's the real deal, handsome, strong and thoughtful. We're so proud of you Mike, and love you so very much. Happy happy birthday.

Last night we went to the fireworks at the local fancy pants mall. The show was amazing. We watched a couple of hundred feet away from where the fireworks were launched. I love the feel of the sound hitting you. It was cold, but we were well bundled and hugged to keep warm. I think I prefer cold weather fireworks to summer. Not a mosquito bite, no humidity...and the snuggling, well that never happens on the 4th of July.

As we took our walk around the mall, I had to stop at the Pottery Barn windows. This table setting was beautiful. It had a garden feeling with the paper whites, birds and terra cotta pots.

I'm just procrastinating, time to get back to work. Have a great weekend my friends.

Still Working...

I'm still working on projects for Thursday. I actually started a new project. Every surface in my room is covered with stuff. The crafts have shifted to the sewing table, since I ran out of room on the other side. Forget the neat room I showed you a couple of months ago. It's a mess! The goods news is, I'm running out of time. I have to finish what I started, celebrate my dear Michael's birthday, enjoy the company of our dear little bird, help a friend move a few pieces of furniture, watch the local "fancy pants" mall welcome Santa with FIREWORKS, (my favorite)(not Santa, fireworks) and that's just Saturday and Sunday. As Ferris Bueller says, Life moves pretty fast, if you don't stop to look around once in a while, you could miss it. I'm enjoying the process, and the busyness, and hoping that we will have a successful event. The photo is of a favor I'm making, remind me I hate sewing burlap. I was inspired by a photo in the pottery barn catalog. Just a burlap bag hanging on the back of a chair, with a wire handle. I know the girls will like this little token, and I have just 71 more to make!!! LOL I love my life.
Thanks to Suzanne and Anne Marie for their kind comments on my last post. They will both receive the item of their choice in appreciation. The Sun is just coming up, and it looks like another beautiful day. Thanks for stopping by.

Help me price these items...

At our Auction we have a sale table. We started it years ago, so that ladies could still go home with something affordable, even if the bidding got a little too pricey for their budgets. I've been working on some of these kinds of items. The clothespin magnets I saw at Curious Sofa. Debbie was talking about how writing on items was all the rage right now and showed some random photos. When I saw these clothespins, I knew I had to make some. I had the pins, the french script stamp and the french paper, actually drawer liner my daughter was getting rid of when she moved to NY. I like to package things as much as I like to make them.
I make sachet hearts for our service project, but thought to make some in a linen type material and stamp an image. This bird may be my favorite of all my stamps. I filled them with organic lavender I bought at Whole Foods. They smell so good.
I always thought that this Keep Calm and Carry On was a quote from Queen Elizabeth. Was I the only one? I did a little research and found it was actually a poster made in Great Britain during WWII. It was never used during the war but was recently rediscovered. It has no copyright, that's why you see this on so many manufactured items. I printed the phrase on transfer paper, (I'm sorry that I can't remember where I got this particular graphic) and ironed it onto flour sack kitchen towels. I sewed on the lace trim and the ribbon attaching the crown charm.

I'd like to give away one of these towels. Help me price these items, (I find that's the hardest part) with a comment, and I'll choose a name on Friday. Thanks for your help.

Using What I've Got

Welcome November. It's great to see you again. I love the cold weather, even the snow. I'm a winter girl, and love a cozy home, filled with family and friends. My baby's birthday is this week (he'll be 26!!!!) and then our auction is next week. After that, I can concentrate on my home and preparations for Thanksgiving.

I've been using what I have to make items for our Auction this month. I have PINE CONES, and made these wreaths . So simple. I'm handy with a glue gun, so that's what I used. The secret to a nice pine cone wreath is to use different sizes and shapes. I used spray glue to cover the wreath with clear glitter then followed that with a fine iridescent glitter.
The effect is more frost than snow. Should I leave them as is, or add a banner, made from sheet music ribbon?
Maybe less is more...WWMvdRD? (What would Mies van de Rohe do?;-) Have a great day my friends.
