The Finishing Touches

Today is the day I plant my wheat grass for a beautiful Easter display. I buy my seeds at Whole Foods. and plant them in potting soil. The whole thing is in a garbage bag, to make a little greenhouse for the seeds to sprout.
It gets twist tied, and everyday I mist it and cut away the bag when the seeds sprout.
Do you believe I still have a couple of hand towels to go? So many SIL's, other family and friends I want to give a little gift to... I made more owls for my Kristen. A sweet friend of my son Jon loved the first owl hand towels I made. They are starting to stack up.
Today, when I should be shopping or baking, cleaning or gardening...I'm sewing! Just this morning... and I'm back to work. Where did the week go? Happy Friday dear friends. Thanks for stopping by.

Gardener of Life

Not much happening that's fun to share.  Cleaning out the refrigerator, the pantry...
 Making lists, checking recipes...
 Loading lawn bags, doing laundry...
Preparing...
"Be a gardener of life.  Lots of what you do doesn't show, like the roots of a tree.  No work is ever wasted if it expresses something important to you."  Alexandra Stoddard

Thanks for stopping by, and enjoy this beautiful day.

Weekend Report

On Saturday, we hit a local rummage sale.  I spent just over a dollar, and got the rusty looking thingy, that was only painted to look like rust. (and ran off red in the dishwater when I washed it)  It needs a clear coat, but a steal at .50.  I'm into trays, so this galvanized one came home with me, as did the cheese dome. There were so many rummage sales, but they were a distance from home. With the cost of gas, any bargains we got wouldn't be bargains... so we decided to be good, and spent the rest of the day outside, cleaning up.
The cool milk bottle came from my SIL.
 Thanks Betty!

This is our little pond.  We had to take all the flagstone and rocks off, so we could replace the liner.  It's a big job, and one that I've done alone before.  Lucky me, DH did all the heavy lifting this time.  There were a couple of scary moments, when my dearest one almost took a header into the pond, and I screamed like a little girl when I almost picked up a REAL TOAD, thinking it was a rock!  I'm such a baby!  We went right past spring and into summer on Sunday with temps in the 80's. I'd like a little more spring before we head into summer thank you. We've got much more to do outside, but we made progress.  Now to plan our Easter brunch menu and shopping lists.

Our little projects this weekend were a pleasure after the long winter. Hope you were able to enjoy your weekend, and  hope the week ahead is a productive one for you and for me.  Have a great day dear friends.

The Easter Cleanup

This is my favorite time in the garden.  The cleanup before Easter.  This fountain, my husband built for me so many years ago.  It's been through a few pumps, and the rose head on the watering can has a weird leak that actually can empty the water overnight.  I'm looking for a new one...  The liner has been scrubbed clean.  The birds depend on it for a drink, and it's so soothing, the sound of running water.

Sometimes, it's just picking up the pieces...  A pot forgotten, knocked over by winter storms.  Cleaning out all the pots, even boots I plant in each year.
We used the chain saw to clean up large branches.  It was a hard winter for the trees. There's still the pond to open...

What I especially like about working at this time of year, is there are few bugs.  After our 80 degree weather today, I'm afraid that won't be true tomorrow.  A storm is predicted for this evening, but the day is just beginning and the work is waiting.  It feels so good to be in the sun, and to see my progress after a hard days work.

I have a few rummage sale finds to share tomorrow.  Enjoy this beautiful day.
