Rain Dance!

I don't know what the heck this song is about, but I love the chorus...It's working for me, it's pouring rain outside!  I couldn't be happier about a rainy day.  Catching up from a very busy Monday and Tuesday.  Hope to have something to share tomorrow.  Until then, crank up the speakers and DANCE!

Weekend Update & Clouds

I just can't get enough...clouds.  This weekend we finally got some much needed rain.  It was a relief to hear rain and thunder, and things started to green up right away.

We need more rain to satisfy the farmers here in Illinois.  They desperately need rain for their corn crops.  I heard on the news that many farmers here have no crop insurance against drought.  It hasn't been a issue here in past years.
Maybe a rain dance is in order...
It's clouds illusions I recall, I really don't know clouds, at all...   Joni Mitchell

I saw an ad in the classifieds...cleaning out grandma's house...fabric!  It was close by so DH drove me over.  I picked through bags and bags of fabric.  Most were samples.  I saw this bark cloth and held it to my chest.  This is not vintage, but oh so close.  I went through all the bags and was selective on what I choose.
Taking only the fabric I would use.

The pieces are large.  Plenty for several pillows.

 Some pillow case cuffs...

A few nubby hand towels, a assortment of fine fabrics.  When I put the stack on the table, the lady said, Three dollars?  YES!

Then serendipity struck.  There was a box with items for .25.  I found this needlepoint pillow, with a W! (our name starts with a W!) Here it is already machine washed and fluffed.  Just beautiful...and then these handkerchief's with P embroidered...

I think they were waiting for me...  Have a great day my friends.

Junk Therapy

Finally got in a little junk therapy this weekend. Even when you're low on funds, (isn't everyone?) you can still find cheap treasures. These came from a Church rummage sale.

A vintage tablecloth, a eyelet lace runner, a granite ware dipper...right off the farm, and some vintage spools.

These will go on display in a French canning jar...

This rectangular tablecloth is in perfect condition, and so pretty in pink and blue. Just spent a few dollars and had a great time.

It felt good to get out and about after a few weeks of self imposed cleaning and gardening. Hope you're having a great weekend too. Get out and enjoy the summer... it will be over before you know it! Take care my friends.

Vintage Vacation

When my kids were growing up, we went on vacation every year.  They have so many happy, funny memories of our times in Galena and in Door County and places to numerous to mention..   I, on the other hand, have ONE vacation memory from my youth, a trip to Indiana.  That's my Mom at the grill with me, 5 year old Penny.

We stayed at this shack, I don't think I can call it a cottage. It was owned by a Priest that was a friend of my Mom's family.  That's my Buscia in the back, and my oldest brother Tony.  Larry seems to be mopping my sunbathing Mom's brow. My Dad never missed a chance to photograph my Mom's legs.  Our home movies are pretty racy! ;-)

My brother Larry mugging for my Dad.  Brother Greg is missing from the photos though I know that he survived...  This was our only vacation, ever!  A couple of years after this vacation, my baby brother Jeff was born.  With 5 kids,  money very tight, (ok, we were poor) we never took another vacation.  So it goes down in the history books, our Vintage Vacation...

When I see these pictures today I look at the canvas chairs, very collectible...and what is that fabric hanging on the line?  Barkcloth? And what about me?  ...I'm vintage myself these days... Memories are priceless!

Have a great weekend my friends!

To Everything There is a Season...

I cut almost fifty blooms and hosta leaves from my garden.

To grace the tables for a memorial lunch today.

A time to plant, a time to reap...

A time to be born, a time to die...

A time to weep, a time to laugh,
A time to mourn, a time to dance...
A time to every purpose under heaven.
Take care my friends and enjoy this beautiful day.
