Oh What a Night...

from left to right
Sue and Ron, Dot and Kev, Nancy and Bruce, Sue and my hubby, Laury and me
On Saturday, we had a reunion of sorts.  These are my friends.  They have known me forever. We graduated from grade school together, all through high school we sang in a folk group, then founded a  choir.  We couldn't get a date...except of course Sue and Ron who started dating in 1968!   We cried over broken hearts, had endless conversations on who to take to the dance.  We were together when we met our spouses, partied at "The Cottage" skied every weekend. We stood up to each others weddings, watched our families grow.   Some of the best days of my life have been spent with this group, and one of those days was Saturday.  After a week filled with text messages, "Are you wearing the same thing to the Church as to the reception?"  I was thrilled to be seeing everyone again.    We were all meeting for the wedding of
Sue and Ron's beautiful daughter Kim.

The best part about old friends is that no time has passed, no matter how long since your last visit.  Oh, and you become 16 again just being in their presence.  Sue and I have been close forever.  She makes me laugh, shares all my memories, knows my heart.  I love to hear her laugh. This is the kind of thing that happens when we are together... When we walked into Church I saw the photographer...he was a really cute young guy...the kind you notice when you are 16, or 16 going on 57!  Of course I had to point him out to Sue. Every time he came by, Sue gave me the look...The same look we have been sharing for 44 years every time we see a "cute" guy.  At the end of the evening, I went up to the cute photographer, and asked if I could take his picture.  (Something I never could have done at 16, but at 57, what the heck!  He was very sweet, and posed for the nice old lady.)  I sent it to Sue's phone under the heading of, "my boyfriend". If we had only had this technology when we were young!  When Sue saw the photo, we had a great laugh.  At the end of the night on our way home, I texted both Sue's, (no, it is not confusing at all, they both have nick names) to tell them I had the best time and that I loved them.  When I got home
I had a message from Sue on my phone.  Sue had sent me back the photo of the cute photographer
with the caption, "sweet dreams!"  LOL I love that girl!

"If I had a day that I could give to you,
I'd give to you a day just like today..."
John Denver

We danced the night away, laughed, smiled till my cheeks hurt. We danced as couples, in a group, the line dance where everyone goes up the middle.  We danced slow and fast
and to techno music and Motown music.
Hubby and I danced and danced and then danced some more. We were silly and happy and having great fun.  Something happens when we are all together... It's like being in a time machine...
 We closed down the place...
Not wanting to leave, not knowing when we'll all be together again.

This is the beautiful bride and her sweet groom.  It was a lovely wedding, a beautiful ceremony, the best reception ever!  Sharing it with the dearest of friends, priceless!

I Love you guys!

Back to some crafting and baking and blogging soon.  Enjoy this beautiful day.

Elizabeth's Birthday, My Gifts

Last night we celebrated my SIL Elizabeth's birthday
with a homemade pizza dinner at my house.
Elizabeth as I mentioned in my last post is so generous...
rarely visiting without bringing me a gift.
She is a expert in flea market and garage sale shopping.
She bought all of this at a sale for less than $1.00.
She is always thinking of me!

I have been looking for little tins like this...
I've seen the cutest pin cushions made with these tins as a base.

Betty aka Elizabeth, has been collecting milk glass
containers for me for several years.
This is my first covered container.

How about this bowl...  just love the pouring lip on it.

My little collection of milk bottles...Betty has found me about half of them.
No, you can't have her...
Betty is amazing, and I am so grateful
to have her as my SIL and dear friend!
Talk about dear friends...
I'll be seeing my best girlfriends
this weekend for an all out reunion.
I can't wait.  Have a great weekend my friends!

P.S.  The other half of Penny Jennifer is visiting Kris and sweet p..
Jenny aka Yentl is visiting with our namesake,
and making the rounds of all the hot spots in Brooklyn...
Trader Joe's, Ikea and the Fairway grocery.
Friends for 30 years, how is that possible when they
are just 29 themselves?;-)
Wish I were there with them to hear the laughter.
No one makes Kris laugh like Jen!
Love you guys!

Chicago Girl

You can take the baby out of Chicago,
but you can't take the Chicago out of the baby!
Here is our sweetest p. in her Chicago Flag onesie.

I asked Kristen what sweet p. might need...
Kristen is returning to work, and Penny will be going to
Manhattan with Kris a couple of days a week.
Mom said onesies, long sleeved onesies...
So I bought these cute patterned ones.

I also bought some white ones, that begged for a little something...
So here is Lavender...

Autumn...

and a shameless plug for Grandma's blog!

Miss those girls more than I can say!
Enjoying a rainy day,
work to do, projects to complete
and a birthday to celebrate...

Happy Birthday to my dear SIL Elizabeth.
She is the sweetest Grandma to our little bird and baby bug,
a great Aunt to my kids, a talented floral designer,
generous to a fault and fellow junker. She is my dear friend,
and an important part of our family.
She is and will always be Betty to me...
I love you, Happy 29th (again?) Birthday Betty!

Enjoy this beautiful day my friends!

Provence?...No, Lake Cook Road!

A field of sunflowers, right off busy Lake Cook Road.
On the WGN Weather App I saw that Illinois Science was sponsoring an event at Lighthouse Beach in Evanston to view the Perseid Meteor Shower on Saturday night.  The beach would stay opened till midnight...all beaches here usually close at dusk in the summer.  Viewing the meteor shower over Lake Michigan is the best view available for us here in light polluted urban areas.

The Baha'i House of Worship, Wilmette

So we hopped into the car, drove down Lake Cook Road towards Sheridan Road and our Lake.

The Grosse Point Lighthouse

The Keeper's House

The welcome sign...

The Lake was churning...

There were rip current warnings.

In all my years, I have never been on a beach at night...  Not to say that I haven't spent time at the Lake at night,(wink, wink) just never on the beach.

We were ready for a long evening and some meteor watching!

Jonathan Livingston paid us a visit.

We watched the sky turn dark and the stars came out.
We didn't have to wait long for the meteors to appear.
For many years watching from the backyard with our kids and nephews, we got more bug bites than meteor sightings.  This time we saw the real deal, and from the first meteor, I was hooked.
It was magical, hearing the surf, the wind blowing,
 watching the sky...
Being with my dearest... When the temperature dropped,
we snuggled up together under our blanket and were wowed by the whole experience.

Today is Tuesday... I got up early to finish writing this post
(I started on Saturday... busy weekend;-)
and was rewarded seeing the crescent moon
outside my window along with Venus.
A sweet gift to start the day...

Enjoy this amazing world dear friends, and have a beautiful day.
