Vintage Vacation

When my kids were growing up, we went on vacation every year.  They have so many happy, funny memories of our times in Galena and in Door County and places to numerous to mention..   I, on the other hand, have ONE vacation memory from my youth, a trip to Indiana.  That's my Mom at the grill with me, 5 year old Penny.

We stayed at this shack, I don't think I can call it a cottage. It was owned by a Priest that was a friend of my Mom's family.  That's my Buscia in the back, and my oldest brother Tony.  Larry seems to be mopping my sunbathing Mom's brow. My Dad never missed a chance to photograph my Mom's legs.  Our home movies are pretty racy! ;-)

My brother Larry mugging for my Dad.  Brother Greg is missing from the photos though I know that he survived...  This was our only vacation, ever!  A couple of years after this vacation, my baby brother Jeff was born.  With 5 kids,  money very tight, (ok, we were poor) we never took another vacation.  So it goes down in the history books, our Vintage Vacation...

When I see these pictures today I look at the canvas chairs, very collectible...and what is that fabric hanging on the line?  Barkcloth? And what about me?  ...I'm vintage myself these days... Memories are priceless!

Have a great weekend my friends!

You were a doll! And the pics of your mom remind me of pics of my mom when my brothers and sisters were little. It's really nice that you remember that time, and even have pics of it. Every summer we went camping at the beach. As kids we loved it, but I'm not sure it was such a vacation for my MOM:) Hope you're staying cool!

Such fun to look at old photos. Those were the days of simple times and fun . . Even if there was only one vacation for the lifetime . . .
