Walking (Wo) Man

A recent walk around the neighborhood brought the song,  Walking Man, by James Taylor to mind...
and the verse that goes like this...
Well, the leaves have come to turning
And the goose has gone to fly

 And bridges are for burning
So don't you let that yearning
 Pass you by
 Walking man,
 walking man walks
Any other man stops and talks
But the walking man walks...

I've mentioned before that there is always a song in my head.  How about you?  Do you listen to seasonal music?  Might I suggest October Road,  by James Taylor, and Autumn by George Winston. October is the perfect time for any of the Winter Solstice compilations, by the Windham Hill Artists.  It's beautiful music that will get you ready for the holiday season.   While I'm making suggestions... Have you ever seen Andy Goldsworthy's River and Tides?  Andy is a artist/naturalist who collaborates with nature to make his creations. He uses leaves and twigs, rocks and icicles in his almost too beautiful to believe works of nature art.  I watch it every year around this time. It's probably available at your local library, it is at mine!  All perfect listening and viewing, on an October day.   Have a great weekend!

When a Morning Starts This Beautiful...

You know it's gonna be a great day.
Here's how I'm using my small chest, on my buffet.  Next to it you can see the tall hurricane I also scored at the rummage sale this weekend.
It must be fall, as I have my first cold of the season.  It's hard to feel bad when it's so beautiful outside.
I'm using my cold as a reason to nap, make soup and snuggle.  All my favorite things for a great autumn day.

My Lil' Chest of Drawers

We hit a great rummage sale this weekend.  I found this lil' chest of drawers.  Someone was looking at the contents, and I piped up and asked if I could have the chest.  There was a 1/2 off sale, 1 hour away, but I didn't want to hang around and take the chance that someone else might take this lil' guy home.  I payed the full price...$12!!!  I didn't turn it over till I got home and saw the original price tag from Crate and Barrel, $79.95!

I guess they didn't turn it over either.  It has a slightly chipped corner and a loose knob.
My other bargain was 2 bags, that were 1/2 off, so for $2 I got all these vintage linens.  A souvenir apron from Portugal, several embroidered runners, some vintage print table linens, a few crochet items...
Can you imagine, all that work, the flowers and lattice...
This bear is machine embroidered, but so cute.
Check out this fillet crochet edge.
 Baby swans!
A couple of ceramic bowls, a very tall glass hurricane and my honey picked out something for his desk... that was our take from this sale.  I've already washed all the linens, and used the chest on my buffet. I'll show you tomorrow.

Is anyone having problems commenting?  I've tried a few times today, just to see the comments disappear into cyberspace.  Now what's up google?

It's beautiful here today.  Sure is nice to see the sun again after a while in the gloom.  Enjoy this beautiful day my friends.
I'm linking to Kathy's Club GW party here!  Hope I did it right Kathy...thanks for asking!

Welcome October!

After a great rummage sale on the North Shore we headed down Sheridan Road to our beautiful Lake.
There is slim pickin's after a certain point, as far as lunch options.  So we headed to Plaza del Lago, to the fancy pants Jewel.  It's really just a regular Jewel, but the customers ARE fancy pants...if you know what I mean.  I bought us a picnic lunch and we ate it in the car at the Lake front.  We listened to a Windham Hill compilation...perfect music to watch the waves.  It seemed that the waves matched the music, and because beauty often brings me to tears...I tried to keep my emotions in check as we enjoyed our lunch. It was so powerful and beautiful.

I've never seen the Lake so churned up.  The wind was strong and cold.  It didn't stop us from braving the elements and experiencing the the awesomeness of nature.
The wind made us feel as if we were flying!
The waves crashed over the rocks...
and the clouds raced across the sky.
The grasses were whipping, and the beach was covered in surf.
I just had to get in on the flying!   Have a great Sunday.
