Remembering Mom

Today is my Mom's birthday. I'm remembering Mom today, and I hope you won't mind indulging me a post about her. I lost Mom 27 years ago, but I miss her everyday. She was funny, and loved to laugh. We got in trouble sometimes for our "wet your pants" laughter. Once she was in the hospital for some tests. We were going to walk around the floor, but first Mom had to put on her slipper socks. She leaned against the wall, and I helped her with the first sock...then she started to slip. Slowly, very slowly she started to slide down the wall, until she was sitting on the floor. It was so silly, we started laughing. With my Mom, once you started laughing, it was hard to stop.
We laughed so hard that the nurses ran in the room, and started to pick my Mom off the floor. They thought that we were crying, we were, but laughing so hard that we were crying. The kind of laughter that makes your face hurt and your stomach ache.

That's how I want to remember Mom today. Laughing.

I hope that you will think of me,
in moments when you're happy and you're smiling
And that the thoughts will comfort you
on cold and cloudy days if you are crying
That you'll love to see the sun go down
and the world go around
and around and around.
