About Buttons and Sewing

When I showed my burlap flowers a couple of posts back, I got a generous response from two of my friends.  Jean, who is my sometime therapist, friend extraordinaire (she gives me time on the couch when I need to talk, a priceless gift, listening...) went into the family archives and brought me the entire button collection to run my fingers through and enjoy. Jean told me to take anything I wanted!   Then my friend Barb, from Babs Just a Babblin sent me a large envelope with the prettiest buttons from her own stash.  Generous to a fault these two. (Have I mentioned I have the best friends!)  Their beautiful buttons will grace more flowers and some sewing I hope to get in before our baby grand arrives.

I just happend to have green paper in the printer, do not adjust your monitor!

Several years ago I printed this free pattern from Oliver+S.  When our little bird wanted to look just like Dorothy from the Wizard of OZ, I was actually able to find the printout and make the sundress in  blue gingham for her.  This is where I confess how rusty I am at clothing construction.  It's been a while since I've sewn a garment.  Even this "easy" pattern gave me some trouble.  I am so used to using fabric in a thrifty fashion, the thought of cutting on the bias for the ties made me uneasy.

It all went together, a little wonky since gingham is very light and of course, has a pattern.

The little bird loved it, and put it on immediately along with a skirt and a pair of leggings and Easter socks I got for her Easter basket but couldn't wait.  That's why we're best friends, I'm so like a three year old. ;-)
I should be cleaning...baking...shopping... for Easter!  Have a great day my friends.

How fun! I just love buttons too and am so glad you got such pretty ones. Great friends, indeed!

Dorothy's dress for your little bird is perfect! My daughter went as Dorothy for Halloween one year. It was always one of my favorites.

That sundress is so so sweet! Looks like you had a nice trip to see your daughter in NYC. I love those waxed bags ~ I buy them at Whole Foods here, but I love to shop in NYC where they seem to have all kinds of stuff we don't!
